    In this pilot study, Japanese junior high school students who are studying English as a foreign language (EFL) were divided into two groups. Both groups engaged in project-based learning (PBL) activities that
    focused on tourism-related language. The control group used paper-based materials and the treatment group used digital materials, including Google Earth VR on the Oculus Rift virtual reality system. The results indicated that the treatment group outperformed the control group on pre- to post-test score gains
    and on a graded speaking task.

    This article explores the different uses of the Web 2.0 tool, zondle <http://www.zondle.com>, in the K-12 and higher education classroom, as well as its pros and cons. Zondle is a game-based learning platform designed to help students study, review, and remember information. It also allows students to produce their own topics to create a personal learning environment.

    the authors of this article
    conducted a paper-based and online
    survey of EFL teachers in Asia (n. 51)
    regarding their attitudes toward, and use
    of, video games in the EFL classroom. The
    aim was to see if the experiences of EFL
    teachers in Asia reflected the same results
    that Wastiau, Kearney, & Van den Berghe
    (2009b) had found, and if so, to explore
    the reasons why video games were not
    being used in classroom teaching. The
    paper-based surveys were distributed at
    secondary schools and a college in the
    Itabashi Ward of Tokyo, Japan. The
    invitations to take the online survey were
    emailed to some members of the Japan
    Association for Language Teaching (JALT)
    with a request to forward it to their
    colleagues.
