１：富田は本学大学院で修士課程（正式名：大学院文学研究科心理学専攻博士前期課程　臨床心理学コース）および博士課程（同：同博士後期課程（博士課程はコース別ではありません））の研究指導（学位論文の指導）を担当しています。
２：修士課程の臨床心理学コースは日本臨床心理士資格認定協会の第２種指定校大学院であり、同コース在学生は全員、臨床心理士の受験に必要なカリキュラム・科目（実習等を含む；すべて日本語）履修が必須となることにご留意ください。臨床実習は学外の専門機関で実施される（本学には学内の有料相談室はありません）ので、高い日本語運用能力が求められます。外国人留学生の履修は非常に困難です。（なお本学大学院臨床心理学コースでは公認心理師科目を設置しており、学部および大学院で所定の科目（実習・演習等を含む）を履修することで公認心理師試験受験資格を得ることができます（詳細は公認心理師に関する大学院ＨＰ、厚労省ＨＰ等をご参照ください）。

    Generally in Japan, it is difficult for teachers to utilize psychological assessments in schools in order to understand and predict students' behaviors and their psychological tendencies because of privacy concerns. It is very important to consider the underlying structural condition behind these "biases" surrounding psychological tests in many schools. It is necessary for professional psychologists and counselors to help teachers administer comprehensive psychological screening devices for helping students with psychological problems. We developed a comprehensive needs assessment for the use of psychological assessments in schools and examined the structure surrounding the needs among Japanese high school teachers. The authors asked 101 public high school teachers to administer the questionnaires concerning the needs for psychological assessment, the current status of consulting systems in their schools and their own opinions about consulting and guidance, burnout, state of mental health, and work climate. The results of path analysis based on structural equation modeling mainly showed that high concerns of school consulting systems, low information exchange about students, and good work climate via burnout as a mediator had positive effect on the assessment needs for understanding students.

    Several studies have shown that the ruminative responses, which are defined as a coping pattern that focuses on the symptoms of depression and on the possible causes and consequences of these symptoms, are associated with depression, Recently, negative rumination, which is defined as the tendency to continue to think about something bad, harmful, or unhopeful for a long time, has been proposed as a vulnerability factor for depression. The purpose of this study was to compare depression scores associated with negative rumination and ruminative responses. We expected to find depression associated with negative rumination. The sample consisted of 188 Japanese undergraduate Students (83 men: M age = 19.0 yr., SD 1.1; 105 women: M age 19.1 yr., SD 1.7) taking a human sciences course at a Japanese university. Subjects participated in an 8-mo. longitudinal study. Logistic analysis indicated that negative rumination was a significant predictor of depression. However, ruminative responses as a whole were not a significant predictor of depression after controlling for negative rumination. These findings suggest that it is important to distinguish whether rumination is focused on negative or nonnegative subject matter.

    Although several studies have indicated that persons with a high ruminative coping style experience higher depression after the loss of a loved one, the relationship between ruminative coping and the occurrence of clinical depression and anxiety disorders after a loss has not been thoroughly investigated. This study investigated the relationship between response styles (ruminative coping v distractive coping) and the onset of major depression and anxiety disorders in a sample of parents who had experienced sudden child-loss (N = 106). The incidence of major depression after the loss of a child was very high (69%). After controlling for demographic variables and psychiatric history, ruminative coping was significantly associated with the onset of major depression, as defined by DSM-IV, but not with the onset of anxiety disorders. Thus ruminative coping after the loss of a child appears to be a risk factor specifically for major depression. (C) 2003 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

    Bereavement-induced grief and psychological intervention are important social issues and worthy of greater attention from researchers and clinicians. Here, we review currently available measures of grief and discusses the differentiation of normal grief reaction from pathological grief and major depression. Finally, we propose future directions for research on the development of new grief measures and the effects of normal and pathological grief on psychological and physical health.

    The present study examined the reliability and accuracy of diagnoses regarding pathological grief and other psychiatric disorders using a case vignette design.     The purpose of this study was to examine the factor structure in the Temperament and Character Inventory [TCI; Cloninger, C. R., Svrakic, D. M., & Przybeck, T. R. (1993). A psychobiological model of temperament and character. Archives of General Psychiatry, 50, 975-990.] and to determine appropriate subscales and items to assess the psychobiological seven-factor model with a nonclinical Japanese sample by the use of the TCI short version. Among 383 ex-members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition, confirmatory factor analysis of the TCI showed that temperament consisted of four factors and character of three, as the original model suggested. Harm Avoidance, Reward Dependence, Self Transcendence and Cooperativeness may be interpreted as a constellation of interrelated but possibly discrete dimensions. Most of the items were loaded into each corresponding subscale, although a few of the items were not confirmed as appropriate.     Perceived motives of food choice were examined with Food Choice Questionnaire New Version (FCQ-N) in a sample of 514 adults and 427 college students. Exploratory factor analysis yielded four factors: Nutrition and Health, Weight Control, Convenience, and Sensory Appeal. Confirming test-retest reliability and internal consistency of FCQ-N, the authors investigated relationships between the subscales and dietary habits. Nutrition and Health scores, which were higher in female adults, were associated with increased vegetable consumption in both adults and students. Weight Control, which was more characteristic of younger women, was associated with reduced meat consumption in adults. Convenience scores, which were lower in male adults, were inversely associated with vegetable consumption in students. Sensory Appeal was not associated with dietary habits, though these scores were higher in females. Additionally, convergent validity was examined by testing links between FCQ-N subscales and dietary restraint and internal health locus of control. The findings indicated initial evidence of the reliability and validity of FCQ-N and intensified significance of measuring and addressing the motives in health counseling and nutrition education.

    The authors reviewed previous studies on the relationship between food choice and various psychological factors, considering theoretical and methodological issues on the previous literature. First, examining basic aspects about food preferences, the authors reconsidered related factors, such as geographical variables, sensation seeking and environmental factors, and discussed methodological problems. It is likely that geographical variables, such as age and sex, modified food preference, and that sensation seeking correlated with food preference. Additionally, it is possible that similarities in food preference and attitude between family members were not high enough to account for environmental factors, and that the stability of food preference was not unequivocal. Next, the authors reviewed the studies regarding links between attitude, belief, and perceived motive concerning eating behavior and real food choice, suggesting possibility that these cognitive variables influenced food choice. Third, considering relationships between dietary restraint and food choice, the authors suggested possibility that this variable may influence low caloric food choice. Finally, the future direction of the psychological studies on food choice was proposed.

    The purpose of this paper was to consider the acquisition, maintenance, and extinction of human food aversions. Questionaires concerning food aversions and preferences were completed by 243 collage students (102 males, 141 females).<br> Food preferences patterns reported by the subjects who acquired the aversions were similar to those by the subjects who had extinguished them. The aversions were acquired mostly before 12 years old, especially in 4-6 years old. Some of them were extinguished mostly after 13 years old. In particular, many of aversions acquired in 7-9 years were extinguished. Those, however, acquired before six years old tended to be maintained longer than those in 7-12 years. Those after 13 years old also tended to be maintained.<br> Those acquired by the subjects were positively related to those by their family members.
