Ｎ．ルーマンの社会システム理論は、E. フッサールの現象学の再記述（超越論的哲学から社会理論へ）を通じて構成した理論やモデルからなる。本稿では、西原和久がA. シュッツの現象学的社会学を批判的かつ発展的に継承するなかで築いた〈意味の社会学〉と、このルーマンの社会システム理論を比較することで、〈持続〉や〈合意〉について得られる知見を抽出した。すなわち、西原のいう〈相互同調関係〉や〈同一関連性〉は、常に一般的に現実に現前化する必要はなく、むしろチャンスや潜勢力として常に安定してそこにあり、わたしたちの誰に対しても開かれている、社会構造（選択構造）として捉える視点が重要であること、その上で、西原の〈トランスナショナル社会学〉や〈歴史社会学〉〈マイノリティの社会学〉を通じた思考実験は、〈相互同調関係〉や〈同一関連性〉の社会的条件を探求する試みとして位置づけ直せることである。

自分の考えを“遺す”意味とは何か。世界は意味を過剰に有しており，私たちに選択 することを要求する。一方，私たちは，観察や記述から意味を選択し，意味世界を構成する。再帰的かつ自己準拠的な実践（ブルデュー）や作動（ルーマン）から私たちは逃れられない。だからこそ私たちは，再帰的に自己言及し，記述をおこなう可能性に開かれてもいる。私たちは，意味世界への応答として，日誌やモノグラフといった文字による記述を選ぶこともできる。フィールドワークとは，世界構成のうごきの場に，現時点において，それぞれの主観（時空）を携えて居合わせることである。私たちは常にうごきのなかにあり，そのうごきそのものは盲点となって観察できない。フィールドワークで観察や記述が可能になるのは，居合わせた場のうごきのなかで，自身を含む人びとの観察を観察する二次観察のときである。

As a so-called side-event of XVIII World Congress of Sociology, an international conference "China Day" was held in Yokohama at 15th of July, 2014. This was coorganized by Chinese Sociological Association, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Japan Sociological Society, and Japan-China Sociological Society. Main topic was "China's Reform and Social Transformation," and there were three sub-topics, China's Reform and Social Governance, Social Transformation and Structural Change, and Social Transformation and Social Mobility. After a keynote speech on East Asian Sociology by Shujiro Yazawa, twelve Chinese sociologists presented their own researches. The problems of governance, inequality, population, urbanization, women, intergenerational difference, mobility in contemporary China were discussed.<br>In this conference, as a Japanese discussant, Toshikazu Shuto, suggested, largely discussed 'public' issues were sociologically analyzed and audience could easily understand both what the important issues were and what the tasks of Chinese sociology were. The problematic issues such as diversity, ethnicity and religion, however, were not mentioned deeply in this time, which also must be decisively important for Chinese society and sociology.<br>Nevertheless, we can evaluate this conference itself was successfully over, because Japanese and Chinese sociologists could collaborate and create a public space for sociological knowledge. A new combination of global level and local or regional level of East Asia will contribute to the transnational exchanges and cooperation. However, if Japanese sociologists could have chances to read their papers, and if there were many Japanese sociologists attending this conference, new transnational dialogues would be further activated. Going beyond the nationalistic or domestic frame of knowledge, which often turns easily to the alienation or exclusion of the others, is now required for sociology. Of course, this postulate is not really carried out with no sweat, so it goes without saying that this reality itself also should be investigated in sociological circles.

What are the features of the society and culture of "hybrid modern" in Japan? First, hybridism is strongly related to productivity. Second, hybrid modern in Japan has disregarded and excluded hybridity rooted in life. Third, hybrid modern in Japan must dispense with hybridism ruled by the market and the nation, and rehabilitate a hybridity that takes root in life. The conditions for solving the problem of hybrid modern in Japan are the following. (1) Hybridity must be practiced in civil society, in associations and the like. (2) Civil society is a base for federalism and regionalism in the age of globalization. (3) If the modern community and associations are fundamental to social unity, the spirit of the civil society can be found in the society and history of Japan.

Weber's concept of &ldquo;Personalismus&rdquo; is a key to understanding social change in Chinese society. This essay is an attempt to apply the concept of personalism in analyzing the dynamism of contemporary Chinese society through reviewing previous studies on the fabric of Chinese rural life, focussing on the role of &ldquo;backstage bosses&rdquo; (houtai ren) in China's rural society.<BR>This paper emphasizes that social relationships based on the principle of personalism was the most important aspect of peasant life, and that changes in the social network, where backstage bosses exercised their influences, clearly reflect social changes in China.<BR>In Republican China, the indispensable relationships for peasants were those of the &ldquo;peasant-middlemen (that is, backstage bosses whose foundation of power and prestige were based on clan lineage, status in religious organization, or land holding) -market town, &rdquo; and &ldquo;peasant-production team cadres&rdquo; in the Mao era. After the 1978 reforms, the backstage boss was usually a village cadre, who was known among peasants as a capable worker (nengnai de ren), whose status has been rising formally or informally, and whose social network extended in and around the village, accumulating connections in the upper level of local governments as social resources. Peasants seek to get acquainted with backstage bosses to further their personal interests by applying the principle of personalism in everyday life.<BR>This paper finds that further in depth discussions on the personality of backstage bosses, especially regarding their motivation, values, and the human resources that they command, are necessary to explain the peculiarities of social change in Chinese society.

本論文通過進行分析自律的个人是構成基礎的“差序格局”与中国民衆的集団化的倾向，也就是説“包”的結合的関係，来探索中国社会的原動力。調査対象為遼寧省撫順市城郊的地板専業村。調査期間為2000年４月～８月。分析的結果如下∶“包”的結合在地板生産過程中，通過小戸(大部分為本村人)与臨時工(大部分由从貧困農村出来的打工者構成)的承包関係，顕著地被表現出来。并且，“包”的結合給外出打零工的人提供了成為鉋主(鉋∶地板加工的主要工具。鉋主∶小老板)的社会地位上升的転変机会。<br />
今后，著者想在本论文分析的基础上，通过对维系“包”的结构的中介人的分析，来进一步探索中国农村的社会变动。<br />

1970年代後半，香港農村は急激な都市化にさらされ，村落内の同族間協業は崩壊した。全村性の村落公共事業は消滅し，村内生業基盤も姿を消した。こうした状況のなか，NGO団体が村落開発と称して村に滞在し，かつての村落生活を復興するために当地の「客家」文化に着目，伝統文化復興運動を開始した。しかし，経済的動機を欠いた文化運動は村民に大きな成果をもたらすことなく終息したことが現地調査より明らかになった。

2019年度、日韓関係の悪化、香港の政情不安、新型コロナウィルス感染拡大を考慮し、中国（香港）知識人調査、韓国知識人調査の実施を延期した。代替的措置としてオンライン形式の研究会（計3回、うちセミナー１回）を開催するとともに、海外渡航調査に代わる企画を立案した。次のテーマで研究会・セミナーを開催し、問題認識を確認するとともに今後の調査研究のあり方を再検討した。
研究会のテーマは、「帝国の秩序の中の台湾、沖縄」、「日治時代の台湾哲学と英治時代の香港哲学」、「戦後沖縄の平和思想」である。これらの研究会を通じて、本研究の中核的な概念である「周縁」について再定義した。周縁に類似する「周辺・中心」の理論は、力の関係から論じられ地政学的な考え方である。「周縁」は関係性と争点によって変動する概念である。「核心」（コア）に対する概念が「周縁」（マージナル）である。中国と台湾、沖縄の「周縁」の国際秩序の表層は力と力が争点になっていても、共生や非西欧的民主主義のような価値観をめぐる争点になる。日米同盟と沖縄、米中関係と台湾、あるいは中華秩序の下での琉球王朝と台湾はいずれ中心・周辺の国際秩序である。地政学的関係の国際秩序に「周縁の秩序」が重層的に構成されている。こうした視点を共有し問題意識の共有を深め、調査に代わる研究会を継続することにした。
現地での知識人調査を実施するまでの中間措置として、中国文化大学（台湾）の若手研究者との間で、日本研究・アジア研究の主要テーマについて基本文献を共有した定期研究会を開催することにした。この成果を最終年度の「外からみた日本を知る事典」の編集に反映させる。

We conducted qualitative /quantitative surveys in these 3 countries, Japan, Thailand and Myanmar, with a focus on the continuation and the transformation of the spiritual cult or religious syncretism. As a result of the research, we have raised the following three issues. Based on questionnaire surveys and interviews on 'North-South' transnational marriage at local societies in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, transformation in 'reproductive sphere', commonality and diversity among three societies, different characteristics between Chinese and Southeast Asian wives have been clarified.
And, based on interviews with parents and close relatives of female marriage emigrants at local societies in Northeast China, Philippines, and Thailand, the following has been disclosed: unique development of transnational marriage in each local society, strong tie between a marriage emigrant and her family of orientation, and importance of her influence on a local society she was grown up especially in cases of Southeast Asian women. Furthermore, 'North' and 'South' in East Asia are not connected in a simple way by transnational marriage, because female marriage emigrants from Thailand and some countries in Southeast Asia often migrate globally beyond East Asia.

In contrast to most of the existing literature on environmental governance, which usually discusses China’s urban industrial sector, this project focused on the environmental problems experienced in modern Chinese villages, particularly its effects on traditional Chinese society. Choosing Daobei village, Pingyao county in the central part of Shanxi province as the main research location, we conducted fieldwork in cooperation and collaboration with the Research Center for Chinese Social History at Shanxi University. This fieldwork consisted of interviews with villagers and the collection of official documents and papers in relation to individual villagers, which is referred to as the “village archive.” We also compiled a list and photo archive of collected materials in order to ensure that the data could be shared and accessed by the project members. In addition, by holding a symposium and an open seminar with Chinese scholars, we were able to present our findings to the public.

Based on surveys carried out among eight nations (adding Finland to the United States,Japan, Russia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Taiwan), this study attempted to determine relationships between trust and social values. Among some of the topics of the questions used in this study were one's own lifestyle, concern about social, political, and economic problems, opinions about reciprocity of trust toward others, human nature as fundamentally good or bad, abidingness, right and wrong, marriage, and religious beliefs. Using multiple regression analysis it was found that reciprocity of trust toward others and human nature as fundamentally good have a positive effect on trust. Also, using correspondence analysis, it was found that when comparing two levels of trust (i.e., the lowest and the highest among four levels) many of the social values have distinguishable characteristics to their configurations in Euclidian space among the eight nations for both levels of trust.

The field survey of the social movement of China and Japan was carried out for the purpose of elaboration of hybrid modern sociology, and the following knowledge was acquired. (1) Cyclic societal changes in mutual negotiation of the modernity and nativeness under globalization , such as revival reproduction or transmigration of society or culture, are characteristic. (2) The cooperation of people who are in a fringe status does not persist in self identity consistencies, such as the origin and originality, but accepts boundary invasion as a normal state rather, and it contains the framework of the interaction with a heterogeneous person.(3) In the civil society of East Asia, the mutual negotiation between the majority and the norm and the practice relevant to movement produces new civic activities.(4) Movement is activating a female network and opening the intimate area outside, and urge reorganization of civil society.

The following matters have been clarified. Firstly, while ‘transnational marriage in East Asia’ includes various problems, it contributes to strengthen relationship and solidarity between countries/areas in East Asia in a long term. In the second, structural characteristics of this transnational marriage can be understood in two functional dimensions: human and familial ‘reproduction’, and ‘global householding’. Thirdly, this transnational marriage vitalizes human resources in a society, especially in a local society which have accepted couples of this marriage, and on the other hand, brings about socio-economic vitalization and change in a local society where a woman of this marriage comes from.

Focused on the "fundamental culture", which has deeply affected the world view of the people of East and Southeast Asia, especially, on the indigenous(animist) beliefs, we have carried out empirical research on relationship between the state religion, ethnicity, or nationalism and these beliefs. As a result, the new findings were obtained on the practice of "indigenous beliefs" of the people live in this modern era, the reality of religious syncretism with the state religion, and on the modern transformation of"animist beliefs". Adding to this, the rare and also really interesting research data were also obtained on the practice of religion of the religious minority(Chinese Muslim, in this case) and their relationship with the central authority.

We carried out both intensive and questionnaire research in Qingdao, China. With this materials of this research, we found out that some villages could yield huge profits out of a property development, and maintained various infrastructures such as housing, water supply, education and so on for co-villagers' member. In these villages, the logic of "equal division within co-villagers' member, and disparities between co-villagers and outsiders" permeates through regional social life. And ordinary residents, as long as they are not co-villagers but outsiders, are experiencing frequent movement in several years. Generally, they are reluctant to commit themselves to social activities in regional community.

Trust is an important research theme which forms one of the bases of sociology. Nonetheless, trust has been and continues to be treated primarily as a theoretical issue rather than one with empirical underpinnings. The findings of the present study, based on nationwide surveys among seven nations (the United States, Russia, Japan, Germany, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Taiwan), can be summarized as follows :
1. Speculation about an interpersonal trust scale based on three questions as developed by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan was validated for five nations, but not for Japan and Taiwan.
2. Parental socialization of trust (or distrust) significantly impacts later adult trust (or distrust) among five nations, but not in Japan or Taiwan.
3. Trust as a norm of reciprocity was not identified as a universal phenomenon among the seven nations.
4. Finally, the bases of trust, at least from a personality perspective, were found to vary among the seven nations, though there were some commonalities.

We carried out hearing investigations and questionnaire surveys concerning our research project. What we found is as follows : (1) Although general publicness is intended by local policy, there is inequality of life between communities because of whether or not there exist local resources. (2) We paid attention to life and attitude of women and elderly people. Then we found possibility of social solidarity to overcome a marginal situation. We need to clarify conditions in which orientation of life of inhabitants has a possibility to reduce a structural inequality in the future.

In this research, the human uniting model of the family, the relative, and the community such as "Interpersonal relationship of the horizontal society" (Japan) and "Bao structure" (China) that supported "Human dynamism" was extracted through the comparison in the social movement of Japan and China. This type of human uniting struggles as a position close of "National citizen society through legislating by the nation". Moreover, "Family's general model" was instituted as anaspect that comprehensively caught a social cultural structure of East Asia. The "relation and practice approaches" demands the review of past the "Group normative approach" (structure theory of the household), and aims at the family's restructuring according to an individual life stage.

1.Project meeting
We held ten times of the meetings for the project period of three years. Moreover, open symposium "Comparative Study on the Asian family's transformation and Invention of the tradition-Japan, South Korea, China, and Thailand-" was held at Shikoku Gakuin University on November 2,2005(From 13:30 to 17:10). In the symposium, the findings obtained from the investigation by the research members were reported by the member, and there was coverage from local media, too.
2.Field Research
2003.8-2003.9 Field Research at Bangkok, Thailand(done by Hashimoto and Masaoka). 2003.11 Preliminary surveys at Okinawa Islands surveys (Inuzuka and Takemoto), 2004.2 Field Research at Nejime-cho (present and Minamiousmi-cho), Kimotsuki-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture(Hashimoto, Ochiai, and Shuto). Preliminary Research and Research(February, 2004) at Cheju Island, South Korea (Masaoka, Inuzuka, and Hashimoto). 2003.8 Field Research at Northeast Part of China (commissioning the research to the native government officer as a cooperative partner).
In 2004, Preliminary research at Miyakojima, Okinawa and Research at Oura district, Miyakojima (Inuzuka), Field survey at several parts of China (Shuto and Ochiai), Follow-up survey at Cheju Island, South-Korea (Masaoka, Okada, and Ochiai).
In November, 2005, Research at Kurima district, Miyakojima, Okinawa prefecture (Inuzuka, Okada, and Masaoka).
3.Presentation on the results of the research
As described above, the research results were reported by the members in the form of the open symposium. Hashimoto presented the paper, titled "Female Life Course of the Thai Urban Middle Class". (based on the data from the research in Thailand in 2003, at the Panel session "Changes in Gender Roles in Contemporary East and Southeast Asia", at Annual Meeting of Association for Asian Studies, 31 March - 3 April, at Chicago, U.S.A., 2005. In addition, a lot of the reports have been presented by the form of presentation at the academic societies or the publications(Refer to the report for details).
4.Achieved results of research.
Findings obtained as a result of investigation are as follows; the tendency of so-called "Modern family" has been seen in a part of the Thai urban middle class and their image on "Tradition family" were reorganized for harmonizing the present situation. Otherwise, in local society in South Korea, there is a kind of "alienation" between confucian values and the real family culture which is observed. Such kind of "alienation" between the image of the "tradition" and its reality are also reported in Okinawa and China case. In addition to this, according to the research on family and female life history at Kagoshima, we found the different pattern of female life course and the gender norm as compared with the conventional image of those in the modern period of Japan. We think these new discoveries obtained by data based on these elaborate field surveys in various areas and countries are useful to improve the current situation of the Asian family history studies though more theoretical examination will be needed.

中国農村では、社会移動や社会的選抜、生活の質などで格差が存在する。個人や家族の適応戦略から生ずる格差だけでなく、村落間の格差も著しい。本研究では、離農した「農業戸籍者」が大多数を占める村落事例を調査し、数億人の余剰労働力人口を抱える中国農村の実態を浮き彫りにすると同時に、社会の移動性を高めつつ生活の質を深化させる「持続可能な発展」のあり方を、社会の基礎的な部分(村落・家族・親族・人間関係など)から検討した。
研究成果として、以下のようなものがある。(1)二者関係が基盤の「后台人」(顔役)社会であり、(2)后台人による社会規範の適用方法や人的・社会的資本が村民生活の内容を左右する村落の「個人的性格」が強く、(3)「人間関係優先主義」を人びとの紐帯の基礎としつつ、組織原理は「<包>的構造」(請負構造)に見出され、(4)父系と母系の原生的紐帯は后台人を結節点に<包>的に展開する。また、(5)父系親族集団の構造や機能などの分析に偏重してきた従来の漢人家族研究を批判的に検討し、(6)系譜観念レベルでの漢人<家族>と、経験的事実から構築された漢人《家族》モデルのズレに着眼して、中国農村社会を動態的に理解する理論枠組みを提起した。
「三農問題」(農村・農業・農民)への取組みのなかで、食糧自給がほぼ実現した現在、農業の構造調整が排出した農業戸籍労働力への対処が中国政府にとって大きな問題となっている。今後は、最近の第11次5ヵ年計画で示されたように、「農村戸籍」の廃止、農村における義務教育の無料化や社会保障の整備など、新しい国家政策が、中国社会の今後にいかなる影響をもたらすのか、村落や家族・親族のケース・スタディを通じてさらに検討してゆくことにしたい。
